Silverton Mountain is not your average ski area. Day passes are limited and skiing is guided only. You must wear an avalanche beacon and carry a probe and shovel. All terrain is served by one lift and up to an hour hike, or by helicopter. There are no groomers and all terrain is rated expert or above. Our day at Silverton came just after significant windstorms in the area, meaning the snow was extremely stiff and cohesive. While it may not have been a powder day, the avalanche danger was low which meant we could ski some of the steepest inbounds terrain Colorado has to offer.
