I encounter Dante during an Expert Challenge in Monster Train. There is a saying in strategy games, "play to your outs," which broadly means dedicating yourself to your best remaining chance of victory when the odds are against you. I do this all the time in strategy games including Monster Train, but never have I been so backed into a corner as in this run while still looking for hope in alternate ways to win the match. As they say in the dens of Magic: the Gathering players, "a win with 1 health is still a win."
