A NEW eruption started on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

The Sundhnúkagígar crater series erupted at 9:26 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, after a powerful earthquake began at 8:48 p.m. Shortly after the first signs of a magma flow or eruption were seen, evacuations began in Grindavík, Svartsengi and at the Blue Lagoon. The evacuation was completed about 40 minutes later
The eruption quickly expanded, forming fissures up to 7 km (4.3 mi) long at its peak and producing rapid lava flows.
The Lava is heading toward my small village Vogar and it’s just a matter of time when that will reach the Village.
This is the sixth eruption to take place so far this year and the sixth in the same area — one eruption along the Sundhnúksgígar crater row in December 2023.
