The Jeepney is not only the most common mode of public transportation in the Philippines but also an iconic national symbol. The jeepney in the Philippines came to be thanks to the Americans who left their surplus jeeps behind after World War II.
Due to a lack of regulation and control, passengers can expect long waits, frequent transfers, and traffic delays.
Along with the jeepney, the Philippine tricycle is one of the most common means of public or private transportation in the country, especially in rural areas.
Tricycles have been in use in the Philippines since the end of World War II, when military motorcycles discarded by the Japanese were converted to provide passenger transportation. Today they are based on newer motorcycles, with a wheeled sidecar or center cab attached to accommodate two or three passengers
