The Evidence Behind the Lost Cosmonaut Theory
The Space Race between the US and USSR during the cold war involved each side attempting to be the first superpower to put a man on the moon. While the US was ultimately the victor in this regard, the USSR was not without its earlier victories, with Yuri Gagarin becoming the first man to successfully orbit the Earth and return safely. Some believe that he was not the first mission to reach orbit however, and that previous efforts had to be covered up due to the death of their pilots. With the reputation that the USSR had at the time for rewriting history, this idea might not be as far-fetched as we might hope.
