The limbic system is responsible for our social emotional brain. This is our ability to regulate, regulate emotions, which is why sometimes it's really hard for students who've had multiple and very traumatic exposures to regulate their emotions and remain calm.
They might overreact to a situation or not know how to deal with the symptoms that they're experiencing. And that can have a huge impact on this part of our brain, the neocortex, because this is where learning occurs. And oftentimes we get frustrated with students because of some of the behavior or lack of emotion regulation, lack of connection, lack of demonstrating resilience that's happening here in this system.
And really what our goal is and what we want is to be able to open up the brain for learning. --
