Journey With Napa - Canine Companions for Independence
On January 25, 2019, I received Napa VII as an 8 week old puppy. My job as a volunteer puppy raiser, a dream I'd had since the age of 9, was finally beginning.
For the next year and a half, I taught Napa nearly 30 basic commands, socialized her in a variety of situations and environments, took her to puppy classes, and gave her lots of snuggles.
All of this, with the goal of someday becoming a service dog for an adult or child with a disability, came to a head on August 14, 2020. I returned Napa to the Canine Companions for Independence campus in Irving, TX outside of Dallas to begin 6 to 9 months of professional training.
My time with Napa was nothing short of difficult, life-changing, and special. I can't wait to see where life takes her, and look forward to being reunited someday, whatever the circumstances.
