This next one was my 3-year old’s very specific request, and a bit of a compromise between us. You may recall his fascination for bezoars - a solid mass of indigestible material that can accumulate in the stomach and cause a blockage. This topic came out of a passing comment to warn him of the consequences of eating things we aren’t supposed to - paper/fibers (phytobezoars), hair (trichobezoars), and.... unripe persimmon (?!?! diospyrobezoars!).

Sorry, these are super gross. So we compromised on a “Duplobezoar” (patent pending - jk) removal 🤣. The “patient” is a boy who swallowed tiny bits of Duplo (let’s call them legos 😅) which congregated into one big Duplo piece stuck in the stomach. Too big for laparoscopic retrieval, the plan is for an open laparotomy and gastrotomy. Will we get it out? Watch and see!
