One of my favorite ways to write music is to try to write a rift to practice a technique I want to learn. Then improvise over it, try to make it more rhythmic. I’m fairly new to finger style guitar (just switched from a pick a few weeks ago), and I wanted to ability to do triplets constantly on time. I wrote a little rift in G major just running the scale, and after I practiced it for awhile to a metronome I thought it would be cool to try the whole exercise in E harmonic minor. It’s been awhile since I practiced that scale so I improvised a little to remember the shapes, I ended up having a pretty cool rift that uses both scales and I really liked the feel. I take lots of videos to remember rifts I like, if my recording stuff isn’t hooked up. I was going to post a video of me improvising this rift, but I thought this video of me practicing it to a metronome after was cooler. Rifts like these I normally practice for a few days, record a rough take and they go to die on my hard drive. In some graveyard of half finished songs just like this with names that make no sense, subfolders in subfolders, it’s all really a mess.
Regardless here's what I think is a fun little jam, still rough around the edges, but a little insight into my writing process and what my early songs sound like. Most of them doomed to stay rough drafts, sad day for my songs really.

I’m not sure if I will continue posting stupid little videos like this, but current I enjoy it. So I will probably continue. If anyone enjoys any of these songs and would like to hear them more polished let me know, it’s sometimes hard to know what ideas are worth spending time on.
