This New Netflix Anime Looks Insane!
Netflix has announced that the anime adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s steampunk novel series Leviathan will premiere globally on July 10, 2025.
Set in an alternate 1914 on the brink of war, the story follows Prince Aleksandar and Deryn Sharp, a girl disguised as a boy as they journey aboard a living airship that could change the course of history, what a crazy concept!
The anime is a collaborative production between Qubic Pictures who are still new to the anime scene, and esteemed Studio Orange, which can go both ways as they did the incredibly underrated Houseki no Kun and Beastars but CGI anime still isn’t as loved as 2D in the anime scene.
But, this adaptation actually marks Netflix’s second adaptation of a Westerfeld work following the live-action version of Uglies, which received mixed reviews. I’m hopeful with a decent studio backing them, they stick to the source material and give us something good.
