Day 3 of main house windows. We are putting on the sill pan flashing to the great room, fourth bedroom and fifth bedroom windows. We put down two pieces to completely cover the 2x8 window sill. It is 7.75 inches across with the 1/2” plywood sheathing on the outside. We used a butyl 6 inch wide piece of flashing on the inside 6 inches of the window. Being sure to clean the wood of any dust and dirt first and rolling the flashing up the sides of the window rough opening by at least 6 inches. Then we placed a very high flexibility butyl flashing strip overhanging at least 2 inches on the outside of the window sill. The flashing was very flexible and we wrapped and pressed the corners into place with out having to cut the flashing. This exterior piece was also extended up each side by at least 6 inches. Once both pieces of flashing were placed we rolled the whole sill flashing area with a small 4” J-roller to really press and bond the flashing to the wood. It’s a process for sure. Especially when you have to do about 56 windows.
