This is Your 180-Day Foolproof Plan. Following it will lead to greater #joy and #achievement than you may have imagined possible. It will challenge you to stretch, it should be fun, and will cost you little or nothing -- because it’s foolproof! What you do with these 5 proven practices is entirely up to you.
Find 150 Friends
Anthropologist, Robin Dunbar, studied the social networks of primates in order to determine, based on brain size, how many #relationships they could maintain. Applying his research to humans, he determined that we have capacity for about 150 friendly relationships. This became known as Dunbar’s Number.
Our friends rank, from inner circle to outer reaches, in layers of decreasing intimacy: 5, 15, 50, 150, 500, 1,500, and then 5,200.
In the wild, having lots of friends is essential to survival; in civilized societies, having lots of friends is essential to #success. See The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.
You may be surprised to learn that anthropologists don’t really know what ‘relationships’ are. That’s good news, because it means we get to decide who our friends are.
I’m suggesting that you reach out to 150 people, over the next 180 days, to schedule time to meet with them in order to strengthen your friendship. That’s less than one a day.
Your income will be the average of your 5 closest friends. ~ Jim Rohn
Your network is your net worth. ~ Porter Gale
Reach out to 150 people, listen to them, strengthen your friendship, and maybe ask: “Is there anything I can do for you?”
‘Find 150 Friends’ is part of your 180-day foolproof plan because relationships are the key to a richer life.
Read 12 books
The average North American, aged 20-34, reads less than 7 minutes per day? Contrast this with the reading habits of famously successful people in our culture:
Warren Buffett - 500 pages per day (1000/day early in his career)
Mark Cuban - 3 hours per day
Elon Musk - taught himself how to build rockets by #reading
Bill Gates - 50 books per year
Average CEO - also about 50 books per year
Tony Robbins - 100 books each year for 7 years at beginning of career
See also - Oprah Winfrey & Reese Witherspoon
Can I encourage you to read 12 books in the next 180 days? That’s less than one every two weeks. There are many different ways to read or listen to books these days, and access to books doesn’t have to cost you a penny.
People who read 7 or more books per year are 122% more likely to become millionaires than those who read fewer than 3. ~ Randall Bell
‘Read 12 Books’ is part of your 180-day foolproof plan because reading books will enrich your knowledge and creativity.
Get Curious
Whether you’re an employee, professional, self-employed, business owner, or investor, asking the right questions will get you your next promotion, pay increase, or project.
Get direct access to the training, statistics, and resources that will benefit you. Find out where others get their information and go get it yourself.
‘Get Curious’ is part of your 180-day foolproof plan because having direct access to valuable resources available to you will make you a more effective decision maker.
Find a Coach or Mentor
A Coach is someone who knows you and what you’re trying to achieve; they push you to be your best and hold you accountable.
A Mentor is someone who’s been where you want to go, and is willing to help you get there too.
A #coach or #mentor can be either free or paid. You may already have someone in your life who serves as a coach or mentor. Be intentional. Take initiative.
‘Find a Coach or Mentor’ is part of your 180-day foolproof plan because having someone in your corner feels great and will help ensure you grow and achieve worthwhile goals.
