Warwickshire Hunt - Lockdown meet - Wednesday 4th November 2020
When the second national lockdown was announced for Thursday the sensible and responsible thing to have done would be to begin preparing for the lockdown and taking similar measures to the last lockdown. Not the Warwickshire Hunt and the rest of the hunting community. The Warwickshire Hunt added an extra day's hunting for a final three day killing extravaganza before lockdown came in. Clearly worried about not being able to kill anything for a month and most likely several months.
With one day to go until lockdown the Warwickshire Hunt met at Fox Farm, Todenham, Gloucestershire at an earlier than usual time of 10:00 in order to pack in as much hunting as possible before lockdown. This area is usually where the Warwickshire Hunt have their final meet of the hunting season and yesterday certainly felt like an end of season meet and perhaps it was.
These are very difficult times for us all, we are facing a second national lockdown, it’s uncertain how long it will last, the future is uncertain in terms of work and jobs, we can’t see our family or loved ones, cases of coronavirus are rising rapidly and we are potentially facing a worse situation than the first wave back in March. We are all being asked not to mix with other households and to stay at home. So is it fair, responsible or sensible for the Warwickshire Hunt to have a large gathering of over 100 riders in the small rural village of Todenham a day before the second national lockdown. We’re sure local rural communities like Todenham don’t appreciate the Warwickshire Hunt potentially bringing covid to the village with its mass gathering of riders from all over the Midlands. There were riders from Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire and perhaps further away. Completely irresponsible on the eve of a national lockdown. When asked about this all hunt secretary Lord Fermoy could do was yawn as if hearing about social distancing was boring him.
This small self-entitled privileged minority are completely arrogant and selfish in their behaviour and their overriding lust for blood means that absolutely nothing else matters or will get in their way.
To think of all the sacrifices we have all made and we are all still making, all the hard work and dedication of our NHS workers and the losses we have had or may have then the actions of the Warwickshire Hunt absolutely takes the piss and is an insult to us all.
There was absolute chaos right from the start with the hunt showing complete disregard for motorists by making them wait whilst they took over the roads. There was complete disregard for the safety of their own hounds letting them run all over place, in and out of oncoming traffic even on busy roads.The 10:00am start meant they packed in seven hours of hunting, only stopping when it got dark. From Todenham they hunted up to Tidington and Shipston-on-Stour and over land owned by former UKIP extremist and Peer Lord Willoughby de Broke, David Verney. From there they crossed the busy Fosse Way to hunt from Darlingscott and Compton Scorpion Manor before heading up to Illmington, Ebrington and Charingworth before finishing the day hunting Stretton-on-Fosse and then back to Todenham. We were followed about for part of the day by one of the irresponsible bad parents who let her child witness a fox being brutally torn to pieces the week before.
At least the lockdown will bring some respite to our wildlife. However we are under no illusions the Warwickshire Hunt will stick to the lockdown.
