An inn near a port city. Guests can get plenty of rum and home-cooked meals, as well as a modest room with walls creaking from the sea breeze. There’s no luxury, but it has everything that ordinary people and experienced sailors need. The owners are the Hawkins family: a father, mother, and son. However, the father’s life has ended, a disease cutting him down at the beginning of the novel, which was a blow to young Jim. This makes it more difficult for Jim and his mother to maintain the family business: it’s an isolated place and guests are few. But there is a picturesque bay, high cliffs, and foamy waves as the backdrop. A great place for an old pirate deciding to lay low.
