Standing in a mighty city
Where the powerful turn away eyes of pity
Surrounded by the suffering people
Who shelter in the shadows of the steeple
The Ancient Ones who walked by here
Sit in silence in the air
In the mountains their make their council
While down below their words are turned
By those with gold they have not earned
The words of the Ancients still sound out well
They are there to keep the people from hell
But still there are those that stir the fires
Of war and theft as they sow thorn and briars
No voices can rise up higher than theirs
As they shout down to the people
From the top of the stairs
Do this, and do that, hate this one and that one
We will fight all the day and fight all the night
We will fight all the world and rage on everyone
The songs of the Ancients still fire the blood
As the liars and scorners prepare for a flood
They know what they are doing and won’t be turned away
Not any of the pleas and questions will they say
Will stop them on their bloodthirsty way
Still the songs of peace that flutter along
Are much more than a handful of dancing song
The words that come down are wisdom and good
As these monsters prepare to destroy all the food
Good men and women stand by and pray
That they will not see what is coming one day
But if they would open their eyes to see
They would know certainly what is going to be
The Wise Ones have told us when war is for sure
What to be done and who to cure
We have been told for centuries now
Words passed down through thousands of years
Not to give in to those who will cow
To follow those who play on your fears
But the leaders and money are in a fury by now
There is no way for them to heed the sound
Of logic and reason that is needed today
Of those things they cry down hear what they say
We can wait no longer
As our enemies grow stronger
We must fight them right now where we meet
We must them them right now down in the street
But the wisest men know to listen real slow
To the words that have come down to us
The proud will lay low when they are put by
Till then they will rage on even to the sky
Their enemies they see behind every leaf
Because they want to own every bull and every sheaf
It maddens them that they have broken what is theirs
So now they will spread hatred to share their despairs
Stop them, say the old ones, from far, far away
Or the old world will perish with no new one on the way
