We have played a citywide game of tag with Nike. Now, how about a game of musical chairs at an NBA game?

Part of Nike’s campaign from the early 2000s, titled ‘Play’, this one too, is one that is fuelled with adrenaline and anticipation.

And a lot of Nike trainers.

As the single notes of the piano gain momentum towards the climax, the game of basketball turns into a competition of musical chairs between everyone present in the vicinity, the athletes and the audience alike.

Although a mere 90-second long ad, the narrative is rich in drama and suspense, with concealed humour and an undertone of confidence characteristic to Nike’s marketing.

A masterful display of not just people against people but Nike against Nike as well, with many glimpses of their trainers worn by victorious participants, the brand proves itself the ultimate winner both ways!
