On June 3, 1974, near Marseille, little Maria Dolores Rambla, aged 8, was kidnapped and found murdered. A few days later, Christian Ranucci, a 20-year-old sales representative, was arrested. After a sensational trial, he was sentenced to death and executed in 1976.
But this case, known as the "red sweater affair," remains shrouded in mystery. The conditions of his interrogation, the lack of irrefutable evidence, and especially the mysterious sweater found at the crime scene but never attributed to Ranucci, cast doubt.
Was he truly guilty, or was he the victim of a miscarriage of justice? Nearly 50 years later, this case continues to divide opinion and haunt the French justice system.
