My father the Rev. Sun Myung Moon has taught that the family is the school of love. Family is the place where we learn to love and grow with one another. Why then is it so difficult to have a great relationship within the context of a family? Why do relationships that are near and dear to our hearts tend to be the most challenging ones to deal with?
Because it is in these intimate and close relationships that we begin to see how unresolved pains of our childhood are amplified in our adult relationships. Many of us spend a great deal of time trying to avoid painful memories and traumas of our childhood. But in order to have real meaningful relationships with people whom we love, we have to be willing to "know" our pain in order to build a beautiful life that we want to have.
