Meet Our Gastroenterologists and Providers
Christian Y. Chung, M.D., FACG
Dr. Chung is skilled in all areas of gastrointestinal endoscopy including upper endoscopy; colonoscopy; small bowel video capsule endoscopy; and ERCP. During his GI fellowship, Dr. Chung received special training in Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for treatment of esophageal cancers and Barrett's Esophagus. Dr. Chung introduced Flexible Endoscopic Swallowing Study to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in 2000 and was instrumental in training the staff speech language pathologists to perform the procedure for evaluation of swallowing in patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia. His areas of interest include Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, swallowing disorders, Peptic Ulcer Disease, Helicobacter Pylori infection, Celiac Sprue, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and colorectal cancer screening.
Rakesh Gupta, M.D., FACG
Dr. Gupta did two years of research at Cornell University Medical College in New York from 1980-82. He completed three years of Internal Medicine residency training at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Bronx, New York, in 1985. In 1987, Dr. Gupta completed two years of fellowship training in Gastroenterology from S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center, Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Gupta is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and a member of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Wes Jones, M.D., FACP, AGAF
Dr. J. Wes Jones graduated Cum Laude at Duke University with a B.A. degree in Zoology. He also received his MD degree from Duke University Medical School and completed his Internal Medicine residency as well at Duke. In 1983, Dr. Jones was board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, having completed his Gastroenterology fellowship at Duke in 1983.
Dr. Jones' special interests include both medical and dietary management of various G.I. disorders including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), GE reflux, Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis as well as celiac sprue. Dr. Jones is skilled in conventional and therapeutic colonoscopy and endoscopy.
Sanjeev Slehria, M.D
Dr. Slehria is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Slehria is trained in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology. His special interests include inflammatory bowel disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, liver, and pancreatobiliary pathology. During his fellowship his research focused on upper gastrointestinal diseases, including Barrett's esophagus, esophageal cancer and gastroesophageal reflux disease. He joined our practice in August of 2004.
Bryan D. Uslick, M.D.
Dr. Uslick attended Duke University Medical Center for his Internal Medicine residency and was honored by being chosen as an assistant chief medical resident in 1993-94. He was board certified in Internal Medicine in 1995. He remained at Duke University Medical Center for his gastroenterology fellowship, finishing in June 1997. During his fellowship, he received special training in the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association. He joined our practice in July of 1997.
Dr. Uslick has special interests in inflammatory bowel disease, peptic ulcer disease, pancreatitis, viral and autoimmune hepatitis, colon cancer screening, and both diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy.
