There are two main routes from Kargil to Leh:
Route 1: Kargil - Namika La - Fotu La - Lamayuru - Khalsi - Nimmu - Leh. This is the most common route and is about 216 kilometers long. The journey takes about 7-8 hours with plenty of sightseeing breaks.
Route 2: Kargil - Hamboting La - Batalik - Aryan Valley - Khalsi - Nimmu - Leh. This is a less-traveled route and is about 225 kilometers long. The journey takes about 9-10 hours, as the road is a little narrow here.
Both routes are scenic and offer stunning views of the Ladakh mountains. However, Route 1 is more popular, as it passes through the towns of Lamayuru and Khalsi, which are both worth visiting.

The most common and widely used route to travel from Kargil to Leh is via the National Highway 1 (NH1), also known as the Srinagar-Leh Highway. Here's the route:
Kargil: Begin your journey in Kargil, a town in the Kargil district of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Khalsi: From Kargil, you'll head east on NH1 towards Leh. The first major stop along the way is Khalsi.
Lamayuru: Continue on NH1 and you'll pass through the scenic Lamayuru village. The famous Lamayuru Monastery is a popular attraction here.
Fotu La Pass: As you keep driving on NH1, you'll cross the Fotu La Pass, which is one of the highest mountain passes on this route.
Nimmu: Further along the highway, you'll reach Nimmu, a picturesque village situated at the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers.
Magnetic Hill: Not far from Nimmu, you'll encounter the famous Magnetic Hill. It's a fascinating natural wonder where vehicles seem to defy gravity and move uphill without power.
Spituk: Finally, you'll reach Leh, the capital of Ladakh. On the way, you may also pass through Spituk, which is known for its monastery and stunning views of the Indus Valley.
