The first of eight 520-tonne steam generators has been installed at Hinkley Point C – a huge step forward for Britain’s first nuclear power station in 30 years.
It works like a nuclear-powered kettle - capable of producing the equivalent of 43-million cups of tea per hour.
This huge piece of kit will generate steam to spin the world’s largest turbines – which will power more than 6-million homes with reliable, low-carbon electricity.
It comes just days after the 245-tonne dome was lifted onto the second identical reactor building, which is being built 20-30% faster thanks to innovation and experience from Unit 1.
