Myostatin is a protein responsible for inhibiting muscle cell growth. But what happens to muscle cells when you inhibit myostatin?
Myostatin inhibition has been proven to increase muscle mass. Mutations in the myostatin gene have been observed in humans as well as in other animals. Researchers have even genetically altered certain breeds of livestock to produce more meat for the meat market. So, if we’re already at the point where we can genetically engineer other animals to become more muscular and, presumably, stronger, then it begs the question, why aren’t we doing this to humans yet? Why hasn't myostatin inhibition become the new steroids?
