Estimates suggest that this condition can affect nearly one in two women: a remarkable number for uterine prolapse, which, as the name suggests, affects the organ essential for the development and future expulsion of the fetus. The uterus is part of the sophisticated female reproductive system, periodically subject to changes due to age and the various stages of sexual development.
Uterine prolapse refers to a condition characterized by the downward descent of the uterus, sometimes even outside the vaginal opening. It is caused by the failure of the organ's suspension and support systems, which can be partial or total. It is generally a condition that affects older women, while it is less common in young women, unless there is a marked individual predisposition.
