In book-form, J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings runs about 1000 pages full of highly detailed descriptions of landscapes, dwarves' beards and drinking goblets mixed in with the epic telling of Frodo's trip to Mordor. Director Peter Jackson expertly turned this lengthy tome into one of the richest and most beloved film trilogies ever produced.
Tolkien's other famous book, a light-hearted prequel to LOTR called The Hobbit, runs about 300 pages. Peter Jackson, once again tasked with adapting Tolkien's work, has made a 3 hour film that only covers the first third of the story. There are two more movies coming out. Why? This is not one of those "we ask a question in the description and then answer it in the video" things, either. We don't know why he did it.
