It is nice to have a fire when it is cold and rainy. However, you have to know which materials and techniques work under these conditions. Fatwood and birch bark are good natural tinder materials even when it is wet, and in this video you see how to find them easily. They are quickly processed into excellent firelighters that can be ignited with a ferrocerium sparking rod or a normal lighter. Good firewood is no problem as well. With the right techniques, you can break down and split into kindling even larger pieces of firewood using only a swiss pocket knife. If the pyre is set up correctly, it starts up reliably with minimal smoke and even burns larger pieces. You can light a fire under almost any condition with natural material found close to the fire site if you use the methods shown in this video.
