Because we are all together in a place we love
and there we put aside our worries
our politics
our insecurities
and choose to acknowledge and celebrate another’s presence as they float
or steam
or ride by,
young and old alike
and all ages in between.
A wave
is a simple gesture
but to be seen
heals us
suddenly we’re no longer invisible
so we raise an arm in return
with a smile on our face
because someone cared that we were there.
It’s a mutual moment between strangers
that gives us hope
and reminds us that we aren’t as alone
as we think we are.”
