When Walt Refused to Be Unknown
In case you need the reminder, you’re allowed to live loudly just like Walt did 🙌 If he had listened to the critics who tried to keep him small and quiet, he never would have done a thousand things, including making Snow White, building Disneyland, and having Sleeping Beauty Castle as the centerpiece of his park.
Everytime I see the giant Mickey head at the entrance to Disneyland (or the Magic Kingdom in WDW), I think of how Walt decided to shout the presence of Mickey Mouse so loudly that no one could possibly ignore him. It was brilliant brand recognition, and I love that having Mickey’s face be the opener to Disneyland was included in the original model of Main Street USA.
I do wonder why they had Mickey in profile in the model, especially when he was more well-known straight-on… at some point they decided against the profile view for that lanscaping arrangement, though we do see the profile look used in all kinds of Disney branding today.
