The first phase of Singapore Polytechnic was completed in the 1970s. Back then, it was a design preference to build small teaching and workshop blocks which are interconnected with bridges and with dedicated toilet blocks. Later developments in Singapore Polytechnic are more integrated in nature.
When completed, toilet blocks G to L features lifts, although unknown, were recently replaced as part of a campus-wide lift replacement programme.
While most lifts in the toilet blocks serve floors 1 thru 4, the lift at toilet block L serve from B1 thru 3; as the polytechnic was built on uneven terrain, the floor numbering of the first phase reflected that. In this case, the food court outside the lift is one floor below the main level of the phase.
