Community centres built before updated accessibility standards did not feature any lift at all to provide barrier-free access between floors likely to cut costs. To bring them up to standard, the People's Association underwent a programme to retrofit and install lifts to these community centres.
As this is a big project, various companies were involved, including Kone and VM Elevator. NewLift Holdings, behind the HERMES•AG brand, was one of the largest supplier of lifts for the project, with many of such lifts seen in community centres.
