The DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) DORA process is a sequence of messages exchanged between a client and a DHCP server to obtain an IP address and other network configuration information. DORA stands for "Discover, Offer, Request, Acknowledgment," and it outlines the four main steps in the DHCP process. Here's a brief overview of each step:

1. Discover (D):
The DHCP client, which is typically a computer or device seeking network connectivity, initiates the process by broadcasting a DHCP Discover message on the local network.
This message is essentially a request for any available DHCP servers to respond and offer IP address and configuration information.

2. Offer (O):
When a DHCP server receives the Discover message, it can respond with a DHCP Offer message.
The Offer message contains a proposed IP address and other configuration settings that the server is willing to provide to the client.
If there are multiple DHCP servers on the network, the client may receive multiple offers but can only choose one.

3. Request (R):
After receiving one or more DHCP Offer messages, the client selects one of the offers and sends a DHCP Request message to the chosen server.
The Request message confirms the selection of the server's offer and requests the offered IP address.
This step ensures that only one server's offer is accepted, preventing conflicts.

4. Acknowledgment (A):
The DHCP server that received the Request message checks if the offered IP address is still available and hasn't been assigned to another device.
If the IP address is available, the server responds with a DHCP Acknowledgment (ACK) message.
The ACK message confirms the client's request and provides the client with the IP address and other configuration parameters.
The client now configures its network settings based on the information in the ACK message.

The DHCP DORA process allows for automatic and efficient IP address allocation and network configuration, making it easier to manage and maintain large networks. It ensures that IP address conflicts are minimized, and clients are provided with the necessary network settings to communicate effectively on the network.
