Glorified Adventures - Colonial Troops in Former German South West Africa | Documentary
The documentary film "Transfigured Adventures" takes a critical look at German colonial history, focusing particularly on the early 20th century. A period strongly shaped by the colonization of the African continent, not only in German history but also internationally.
The film follows a young lieutenant from Herne and traces the traces of imperial troops from the colony in what was then German South West Africa. The film uses several original visual and written documents, including letters and diary entries, to deconstruct a romanticized, idealized image of the bygone colonial era. A look ahead to the present at the end of the film reveals how this period continues and is still present today.
