Vacation in Berleburg 1936 | FILM TREASURES
The footage by Westphalian amateur filmmaker Philip Wasowicz shows the Wittgenstein region in 1936. He spent that summer with his family enjoying the Wittgenstein countryside, and his camera was a constant companion. Unlike the neighboring Sauerland region, Wittgenstein was still a relatively unknown holiday destination at that time. Wasowicz's footage, however, demonstrates how worthwhile a trip to the region is – with its Berleburg Castle, the Odeborn River, and idyllic natural landscape. The fact that this idyllic scene was, of course, also shaped and disrupted by National Socialism in 1936 is not apparent in the footage.
In this edited version of the original film, some of the silent footage has been shortened and accompanied by commentary and music.
