How to stop all those telemarketing calls after your credit is pulled?
You may notice that as soon as your credit is pulled by a lender, you start to receive many many telemarketing calls for offers of credit or insurance. Why does this happen?? Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the three credit bureaus that report your scores, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, are required to include your name on lists used by creditors/insurers to make firm offers of credit or insurance. Due to your name being added to list, these calls start with no end in sight, as you can be on these lists for years.
While FCRA requires your name to be added to the caller list, they also allow the ability to “Opt-Out” of these calls. As soon as you start working with a mortgage lender, you will want to take the steps to Opt-Out of being added to the caller lists to minimize the amount of telemarketing calls you receive.
How to Opt-Out:
Go to https://www.optoutprescreen.com/ You can then decide to Opt-Out from receiving firm credit offers for five years (electronically through their website) or opt-out permanently (by filling out the election form and mailing in.)
