On Patriots Day 2017, I documented my visit to Boston using my Canon 60D. Patriots Day, a Massachusetts state holiday commemorating the Battles of Lexington and Concord that began the American Revolutionary War, falls on the third Monday of April each year.
The weather was clear and mild as I arrived at Fenway Park for the traditional morning Red Sox game. I recorded footage of the game, capturing multiple innings, crowd reactions, and the distinctive Green Monster of the historic stadium.
After the baseball game concluded, I relocated to the Boston Marathon route. This famous race, run annually on Patriots Day since 1897, draws elite international athletes and thousands of recreational runners. I positioned myself at several locations along the 26.2-mile course to film different segments of the race.
My footage included the elite runners passing through in the early afternoon, followed by the steady stream of participants that continued for hours. I captured spectators lining the streets, volunteers at water stations, and finishers crossing the blue and yellow line near Copley Square.
Throughout the day, I documented both sporting events along with the patriotic atmosphere that makes this holiday unique to Boston. The footage was later edited in Final Cut Pro to compile a comprehensive record of this quintessential Boston celebration.
