‘A Life Less Ordinary’ campaign encourages people to think differently about adoption and the children waiting longest to find a stable home.

While there has been a significant increase in the number of people coming forward to adopt, most are seeking a single, very young child.

In fact, adopters are in greatest need for brother and sister groups, older children, those with physical or educational needs and children from ethnic minority backgrounds. Children from these groups represent 65% of all those waiting to be adopted, with many facing year-long delays compared to those without these characteristics.

We spoke to real-life adopters of children from these groups, to find out exactly what it takes to have #ALifeLessOrdinary.

The children in this film from these groups form an ‘expert’ interview panel, asking real adoptive parents questions about what it takes to give these children a permanent home.

No child should have to wait longer than another to be adopted and yet more than 1,000 children in England are waiting significantly longer than others to find their forever homes.
