Is Chernihiv Ukraine the NEXT BIG THING?
Chernihiv is a small, green, quiet and cozy city, which feels more like an open-air museum rather than an ancient city. One day would be enough to see all of its main sights 🗾
Its original history, as it is with most ancient cities, is surrounded by legends, retelling and hypotheses. The scariest legend is about the Mazepa's house, which is located near the cannons. It is said that Mazepa has hidden a lot of gold there, but nobody has found it yet as the ghost of his lover, Maria, protects the treasure. Every year, on the Eve of Dormition of the Mother of God, the ghost of a woman appears here and asks all passers-by to bless her by making the sign of the cross over her. Sounds creepy, doesn’t it? 🔮
The city is also famous for its sights from the times of Kyivan Rus’ and Chernihiv Principality, as well as from the Cossack Hetmanate period and the Chernihiv Cossack Regiment ☝️
The tales of Chernihiv’s ghosts terrify all tourists, so Rob and Heather filled their pockets with amulets before visiting this mysterious city 😎
