Introducing PureData (PD) and MaxMSP
This ten-minute video briefly introduces two closely related pieces of audio software: PureData (a.k.a. PD) and MaxMSP. These two pieces of software were both developed from a piece of software called "Patcher," which was devised by Miller Puckette in the 1980s. Therefore, both MaxMSP and PD share a lot of features, and to all intents and purposes can be used to achieve the same things (although not always in exactly the same ways.) In a nutshell, MaxMSP is expensive but probably easier to get started with, whereas PD is more powerful and flexible and therefore slightly more of a challenge for the beginner.
