Berita RTM, better known as Saluran Berita RTM ('RTM News Channel'), is a free-to-air news channel in Malaysia that's operated by public broadcaster Radio Televisyen Malaysia. The channel broadcasts 24 hours a day and it offers 25 daily news slots, 12 talk shows a week, five business news days and two weekly magazine programs that contribute to the empowerment of the public with a wealth of information. It also simulcasts news programmes originally targeted at TV1 and TV2 viewers.
Berita RTM also allows viewers to watch multi-language radio newscasts as well as live broadcasts from RTM radio stations across the country, which also discuss specific issues at the state level.
Prior to Berita RTM's launch, Malaysia has only two news channels: Astro Awani by the private-owned All-Asian Satellite Television and Radio Operator (Astro), and Bernama TV by the government news agency Bernama. Berita RTM began its trial broadcasts on 30 December 2018, but the channel officially went on the air on 25 June 2020 in a launch ceremony presided by the then-Minister of Communications and Multimedia Saifuddin Abdullah, kickstarting its operations as part of a government initiative to counter fake news and to disseminate accurate information in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
