Orange | 1 Minute Short Film [HD]
Orange is a 60 second short film written, directed and starring Rubén Giuliani about a young boy who judges an orange by the color of its peel.
Director's Note: "What this minute of film seeks to convey is a simple idea which time and time again has found itself at the core of the discourse on sustainability. We, as living beings, strive, above all else, to be above all else. A congregation of brains each wanting to be better than their fellows is indeed a loose definition of a society. All the grandeur of the modern world has been achieved through the primal instinct of competition. The pyramids, the cities, genetically modified oranges, the computer, they were all built from pain and greed. Grandeur we have, but us the people who built it and for whom it was built are trapped in the same mindset as that of our far less advantaged ancestors. We are no happier, no more fulfilled than the hunter gathers that came before us. We are never content, we achieve extraordinary things that are never enough, we have to do better, and better and better and...? The modern man is chasing a sparkling oasis of happiness which no matter how close he gets will stubbornly keeps its distance from him until the day he dies. The truth is that nothing we do will stop people from being people, nothing will stop us from building, nothing will take us off our goal of a utopia. Coy mother earth has spoiled us with a seemingly endless supply of resources for us to build our fantasy world with. But in the end I know who will have the last laugh. I am not hoping that my film is going to change this. What I do think is that if we as humans start really, really, appreciating what we have and stop feeling the need to better it we will both find ourselves in a state of happiness superior to that which we were chasing in the first place and the earth may be able to keep us on here for that much longer."
