ASC T-128 | Full Alert | Champion Twp., OH (Trumbull County) | 2/2/19

Went back out to Trumbull County to catch one of their 24 ASC T-128's sounding for the monthly test. I also am the first to record a test of their T-128's up close and in HD since these sirens were installed back in 2005 by Werden Electric.
I've been wanting to hear a AC/DC T-128 and one sounding in alert, as I've only heard one T-128 before, and that was a DC-only unit that sounded in attack. This siren was very loud and vibrated the ground when it swung towards me. It sounded pretty healthy despite dropping from 560hz to the more typical 530hz about a minute into the test. I thought this siren wasn't going to sound because it was in the same position as it was on Street View, but once I figured out that Street View image was from several years ago I assumed it was just a coincidence, and I was right.
Trumbull County's sirens are set up very odd. They have 24 ASC T-128's (mostly in townships and more rural areas of the county) which are activated via a CompuLert NexGen system at the county 911 center. However, several small towns as well as the more suburban areas of the county activate their sirens independently from the county sirens. Lordstown, Niles, Girard, and Warren all operate their own siren systems which are independent of the county sirens, although all except Girard, (which supposedly tests every Saturday at 6 PM) test their systems (which are mostly all 2001s of various ages aside from the Thunderbeam in Niles at Waddell Park) at the same time the county does, on the First Saturday of the month at noon. This obviously would cause some confusion, as was demonstrated during the EF-1 tornado on January 8th of this year that hit Cortland and traveled across Mosquito Lake and during the tornado that hit Middlefield last September.
Also operating independent siren systems are some small towns, townships, and VFDs in the county that have tornado sirens they sound manually.
Most of the sirens in Trumbull County (with exception of Girard which follows their own testing schedule, plus Weathersfield Township and a couple others that only sound their sirens for SWA) are tested on the First Saturday of every month at 12 PM. Enjoy!
This particular siren is located at Champion Township Cemetery next to a cell tower. The cemetery is located off of Mahoning Avenue NW across from a now demolished elementary school. The video and audio were taken from my Canon Vixia HF R700 about 80 feet from the siren, and the photos in the beginning were taken with a Canon PowerShot SX50HS.
