Season 5, Round 8. A KSP animation.

Season 5 Round 8 actually happened all the way back on May 24th, and we finished most of this video back then. There was one part in the middle that we couldn't figure out, so we put off fixing it until we could.

This was created for ‪@scottmanley‬ 's runway project, and with help from ‪@eclipticindustries‬ .

We had some troubles while making it originally; but it was so long ago I've actually forgotten most of em lol. But the big ones -

When the star destroyers jump into hyperspace (Starting from 1:36), you see the craft going back into the hangars. However, we couldn't actually animate them doing so - they use something called boids, a fairly common "ai" method. We could only make them leave, rather than reenter, the hangar.

So what I did was flip all the boids around so they were facing backwards and then animate the entire scene backwards. So in blender if you played the animation normally (i.e. forwards), the star destroyers would jump into the scene backwards, and then the boids would fly OUT of the hangar, facing backwards. I then just reversed the animation in Davinci Resolve, and it worked!

The big one, though, is we've got a deadline for submitting these things, and it's 11:59 PM CST on tuesday nights when the art streams are. So I hit render (back on may 23rd), and it genuinely would not render in the time we had left. We're still not sure why, but I had to get it out there, so I used nvidia shadowplay and just screen recorded the preview window. It worked!

After this, there's Season 5, Round 9, which is fairly short.. and then S5R10.
