It can be natural or anthropogenic and could be sudden onset (as in case of flash flood, cloud burst or explosion in industry) or prolonged onset (like drought or civil conflict). Hazards that strike low vulnerability area or uninhabited region will never become disasters. Air pollution leads to disasters and vice versa e.g. earth quake, war and volcanic eruption. Disasters disturb the air quality for a long or short period. The exposure of life to large concentration of pollutants within short period may result in unpredicted impact e.g. fatalities caused due to release of toxic gases. Developing nations suffer the greatest impact in terms of life, economic loss, and environmental degradation.
