There are many Mongolian and related Mongolic groups throughout Eurasia, partially as a result of the Mongol conquests and the rise of the ruling Turco-Mongol elites in North-Central Asia. Mongolic peoples like the Buryats, Kalmyks, Moghols and other related groups settled all over Asia and Eastern Europe, although usually in quite small numbers and ironically many Mongols such as the Dzungars of Xinjiang were subject to harsh genocides in the late 18th century, which saw the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Dzungar civilians.
