Leading design and innovation consultancy Seymourpowell showcases details of its latest aircraft interior project, ‘First Spaces’, an innovative design concept that reimagines the future of first class air travel. The project combines Seymourpowell’s wealth of experience in air travel design with new research and insights into the category, and has been nominated in the prestigious 2016 Crystal Cabin Award at this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo.

Jeremy White, Head of Transport at Seymourpowell commented, “We've long been considering ways to create aircraft interiors that can adapt more to suit the needs of passengers and add flexibility to the business models of airlines. We've previously developed ‘Morph’, an economy class seat that allows passengers to buy more or less space depending on their needs, and ‘Flex’, a configurable business seat that allows airlines to optimise the cabin layout for passengers. With ‘First Spaces’ we’re excited to have extended this thinking into first class section of an A380."

Seymourpowell's research with first class passengers revealed a clear market for a very high-end premium service. Privacy was cited as passengers' primary reason for choosing first class, where they will not be bothered, or even seen, by other passengers. Other insights revealed that first class passengers value discretion, a real sense of personal, ‘unshared’ space and the provision of a faultless experience. In First Spaces, Seymourpowell have addressed these important insights using three key strands:

1. Accommodation that feels like a contemporary boutique hotel
2. The use of new technologies to deliver what Seymourpowell call ‘prescient service’
3. A new expression of contemporary luxury.
