Experimenting with various time lapse setups, camera's and lighting.
Octolapse on raspberry pi with the stock standard pi camera seems to be the most reliable solution so far.
The yellow Pikachu was recorded using a Canon EOS-M with it's remote shutter wired to a micro switch that the bed pressed against each time octolapse moved in for the shot.
This worked great but my tripod kept moving so i'll work on that.
