Foraging + Homesteading = I FOUND A MULBERRY TREE!
In the realm of self reliance, being able to understand the natural processes of the plant and animal life in your location is critical. Over the last month, I have discovered a few young, struggling mulberry trees out at the farm while out doing work.
In this video, I clear away competing weeds from the ground around the sapling, cover the area with a weed barrier and some homemade mulch. Next, I install an old fence around the tree to keep the rabbits and deer from damaging the young tree.
Over the next year, I will continue to check on the tree and maintain it as needed. In the coming months, I will prune and take some cutting from the tree to experiment with propagation.
