Finland and Sweden have applied for NATO membership following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The talk examines likely reasons that led to the decision through press articles from major newspapers with the aim to look back at a timeline of events and increasing geopolitical tensions that led Finland and Sweden to abandon years of military non-alignment.
More About Veikko Valli:
Veikko Valli is the Honorary Consul for Finland in Oregon. Mr. Valli has a background in the finance industry having previously worked at investment banks or institutional investors in Helsinki, San Francisco and London. He is currently the co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Snowstorm Capital focused on a trading strategy forecasting unexpected surprises in European equities. Mr. Valli has an M.Sc. (Economics) degree from the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki. Mr. Valli has done a one-year conscription service in the Finnish Defence Forces and is a Second Lieutenant in the reserve. Mr. Valli is trilingual in Finnish, Swedish and English and has followed the discussion around NATO in both countries. He is native to Finland and has resided in Portland, Oregon since 2015.
