About Strainers...
A strainer is a device installed in front of valves, traps, and equipment in gas or liquid piping to protect the performance of the equipment by removing rust, scale, welding slag, sand, and other foreign substances mixed in the fluid inside the pipes. It is also referred to as a filter.
The structure of a strainer consists of a body, a screen, and a cover or cap that allows the screen to be inserted and removed.
Mesh-type screens are primarily used for the screen.
The size of the mesh must be selected according to the fluid characteristics. If the screen is not frequently removed and cleaned, the mesh can become clogged, increasing resistance and potentially causing significant malfunctions.
Strainers are classified into Y-type, T-type, Cone type, and Bucket/Basket type depending on the installation purpose, fluid type, and type of foreign matter. They are also categorized by connection method into screw type, socket type, and flange type.
Y-type and T-type strainers are primarily used in PVC piping lines.
Y-type: Strainers used for general process applications are almost all Y-type and are used to protect pumps, control valves, flow meters, steam traps, etc. In particular, transparent Y-type strainers are widely used. Since the interior is visible, the amount of foreign matter on the screen can be observed, making it easy to remove foreign matter before the screen becomes clogged.
