After a 3 years absence, there is much anticipation over the 6th edition of the basketball event - formerly played at U18 level - with the top 3 teams winning tickets to the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup 2023.
There were 18 men's and 17 women's basketball teams competed in Kuala Lumpur ranging from 18 different countries such as Malaysia, Japan, India, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Iran, New Zealand, Jordan, Turkmenistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Singapore, Hong Kong, Samoa, Guam and Bangladesh.

This basketball game format is currently being promoted and structured by FIBA, the sport's governing body. Its primary competition is an annual FIBA 3X3 World Tour, comprising a series of Masters and one Final tournament, and awarding six-figure prize money in US dollars. The FIBA 3x3 World Cups for men and women are the highest tournaments for national 3x3 teams. The 3x3 format has been adopted for both the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
