Cherokee Grape Dumplings #2 - Native American Heritage Month
Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each in to our kitchen this evening. Tonight I am going to be making a very old recipe for Cherokee Grape Dumplings.
Love when I get a chance to make these delicious dumplings. Yes I have made these before but this recipe is a historical one to keep our heritage alive. Traditionally this recipe as wrote down was made using the juice of fox grapes. So at the moment I have to substitute regular grape juice to prepare this delicious dessert.
So let's begin the journey of a month long celebration of Nature American Heritage. Below is the original recipe and the substitute is in parentheses.
1835 Cherokee Dumpling Recipe
1 cup of flour
1 TBsp of sugar
1 1/2 tsp's of baking powder
1/2 tsp of salt
2 TBsp's of real butter
1/2 cup of fox grapes juice (grape)
3 1/2 cups of strong fox grapes juice (unsweetened grape juice)
1/2 cup of sugar
